Butterfly's tears

I stumbled across "The Butterfly Lovers" again this year. (The last time I came across the classic movie was around 2004). Not to brag, but I cried again watching it.

After more than 15 years since I catched it on the cinema, there's always something about that movie that made me cry. I watched it probably because of the marketing propaganda, apart from my love for movies, that sold Nicky Wu and Charlie Young as the doomed lovers. But clearly, who wouldn't want to watch the "it" idols at that time fought for their love in the midst of a difficult time?
I don't quiet understand most of the things that happened at that time. I didn't understand why the "Peter Ho's" character was jealous, why the mother wanted to separate them, why the father had to be so cruel. As I watched them over and over again (and chocking quietly), everything sorted out by itself. Only one thing remains, till this very day, why did the father needs to wear make-up? didn't he has all black spots across his face by the end of the movie? or was it my tears making fun of the cruel father?

It may be just a simple sad movie for some people now. I have to agree when people said that the actings were not the best. But the settings with that melody, accompanied by the lyrics that she wrote on the letter with his blood (it did sounds pretty nasty didn't it?) (not to mention, when she cried blood!!!), it did sort of tugged your tear ducts a little. It happened to guys too. I saw it.

When I left the cinema that time, I was really convinced that they had become butterfly and fluttered away happily over the rainbow. Why shouldn't they? at the end of the rainbow, there will be a pot of gold waiting :), far away from the make-up-wearing-black-spots-faced father. I still believe that when I watched the movie yesterday.
